FEW DAYS BEFORE THE DAKAR 2019, SERGIO SAMANIEGO IS SHARING HIS FEELINGS
December is flying off quickly, the team and I feel like the rope starts tightening every day. The Dakar is coming and we are still hardly preparing to be fully ready for D-Day. As it is a first for us, we are getting anxious and worried about finishing all the left details. However, the team and I have already come up with a race plan in mind and are determined to win over this year’s Dakar! To do so we are intensifying the preparation. Indeed, preparing the team and completing all the financing has taken the longest time. We’ve lost weight and exercised harder than usual even though it wasn’t as much as we would have liked. For a race, as huge as the Dakar, difficulties are always wandering around and I had many of them that came knocking at my doors such as a slip-up and a roll-over. Thanks to the support of my team and my community we are still standing and stronger than ever to fight for victory!
Preparing a Dakar is always different than any other race, it is said that the hardest part is the departure. Indeed, being able to run the race involves lots of sacrifices, especially when it comes to the family. I’ve only spent two days for the holidays with my dad, brothers and nephews at Huánaco when I’ve been trying to forget about everything for a moment but it is nearly impossible. This race gave us and will still give us a lot of battles but I would like to deeply thank BFGoodrich for giving me the opportunity and the trust to run this incredible race and be part of this adventure.
I wish you all happy holidays, to follow your dreams and be able to conquer them as I am!
