A family Christmas, then off for the Dakar!

Young dads Sébastien Loeb and Mikko Hirvonen will spend Christmas with their respective families before trading their Father Christmas outfits for their Dakar race suits.

“I spend every Christmas with my family, says Loeb who is driving a Peugeot 3008 DKR/BFGoodrich® on this year’s rally. “Competing on the Dakar doesn’t change much, except that I won’t indulge so much during the festive period. I will try to make the most of every instant before I fly. I won’t switch to race mode in my head until I get to South America.”

“The most important thing is to be with my family for Christmas,” notes Mini/BFGoodrich®’s Hirvonen who is also contesting the Dakar for the second time. “I will make the most of the time I have with my children, just as I do every time we get together. I will obviously prepare a little for the trip but we are quite well organised, so there’s no stress on that front. The real focus will begin when I slam my door at the start of the first stage.”

“Last January, my wife and daughter came out for the start. My daughter wants to come again but we’re not sure whether it’s to see me off or have some time off school,” quips Loeb.

“My sons won’t attend the rally but I know they will follow what’s happening every day,” adds Mikko. “My wife will be on the event, though. I need her to be there.”
