BFGoodrich® and Toyota secure their 15th and first Dakar victory respectively

Victory for Nasser Al-Attiyah/Mathieu Baumel on the 2019 Dakar in their Toyota Overdrive has provided BFGoodrich® with its 15th win on the famous cross-country rally.

From January 6-17, the driving skills, navigational ability, resilience, bravery and determination of participants were put to an extraordinary test in Peru where Nasser Al-Attiyah/Mathieu Baumel (N°301) steered their Team Overdrive-run Toyota to first place in the car standings. BFGoodrich® is proud to have been their ally throughout the 10-stage marathon which saw the Franco-Qatari pair’s consistency pay dividends over the fortnight’s challenging, varied terrain.

The cocktail of fesh-fesh sand, rocky canyons and the country’s magnificent Ica and Tanaka dunes pushed the crew’s nerves and tires to the limit. “Our BFGoodrich® tires delivered a faultless performance,” enthused Nasser at the end of the event’s final test.

Nani Roma (N°304) bagged second place, while Sébastien Loeb overcame repeated driveshaft problems in his PH Sport-tended Peugeot to make it an all-BFGoodrich® podium at the finish in Lima.

Multiple Dakar winner Stéphane Peterhansel and his co-driver were side-lined on the penultimate day (Stage 9) following an awkward landing after a jump over a sand dune.

Competing on BFGoodrich® tires, the all-lady N°385 crew of Andrea Peterhansel/Annett Fischer reached the finish in 14th place in the Side by Side class to celebrate their remarkable performance at first attempt in this category on the Dakar.

“A big thank you to BFGoodrich® for helping us to realise our dream!” beamed Andrea at the finish.

The 41st Dakar featured a total distance of 5,537 kilometres, including 2,877km divided into 10 stages, and many competitors described the second week as the most punishing, both technically and mentally.

The Dakar Service Center provided crews with unfailing support throughout the rally, including during the rest day which turned out to be the busiest for the fitters. Some 2,000 tires passed through their hands.

The competitors came for the dunes which proved a huge challenge but there was only one victor at the end of it all, and BFGoodrich® is proud to have added a 15th outright success to its record on this world-renowned rally.
